Lines of Business - Freight Transportation

Freight assignments include: bulk commodity transportation, strategic planning, rail line and equipment evaluation and appraisal, going concern valuation, intermodal, right-of-way and track structure value analysis, short line and regional railroads and track analysis. Each of these business lines includes many projects involving transportation of freight, facilities for handling freight or companies that transport freight. The firm’s assignments also have involved planning or evaluating impacts of merging major railroads. Freight assignments for various State Departments of Transportation have included preparation of more than 20 State Rail Plans as well as studies of individual railroad lines and corridors. Other issues addressed by the firm as part of freight rail assignments include: operations planning, capacity constraints and capital improvements to enhance network fluidity accident investigation, environmental liability determination, equipment maintenance planning and evaluation, freight flows and volume estimation, grade crossings, freight rates, access and economics of rail service users, logistics costs, privatization and contracting out, track and yard relocation, and trackage rights and fees.
