Lines of Business - Grade Crossing Safety

RLBA crossing safety capabilities include: systematic corridor or local community reviews of highway-rail crossings; assessment of current traffic flows and available safety alternatives; development of supplementary safety measure recommendations and estimates of their cost; assessment and development of quiet zone options and draft proposals to facilitate and focus discussions between railroads and communities for presentation to State and Federal regulators; development of crossing safety improvement programs; establishment of priorities; consideration of funding sources; development of standards or guidelines in the selection of alternative grade crossing protection and/or crossing consolidations; performance of railroad relocation/re-routing and grade crossing mitigation feasibility studies and the use of Federal Railroad Administration computer-based, accident prediction and risk analysis tools.
