Lines of Business - Intermodal Transportation
The majority of RLBA’s recent engagements in the Intermodal Freight Transportation line of business have concerned the planning and construction of new intermodal terminals being developed in response to continuing, strong growth in railroad intermodal volumes. Having been engaged by parties representing the full spectrum of intermodal development interests (rail carriers, intermodal shippers and local governments) RLBA brings tremendous perspective to its intermodal freight transportation assignments. That perspective is leveraged through judicious use of RLBA’s multidisciplinary staff.
RLBA’s experience includes projects focused on the demand for intermodal business including such assignments as examining historical trends in intermodal volumes to making forecasts of future volumes; comprehending customer- and location-specific intermodal market research and optimal terminal location from a demand perspective. Both demand and supply perspectives are complemented by a thorough understanding of unique operational needs of railroad intermodal business gained through RLBA staff experience when employed at major US railroads as augmented by numerous RLBA intermodal operations engagements. A solid appreciation of operational problems gained from RLBA’s nationwide experience in railroad operating cost analyses, works in tandem with a highly competent design review staff to yield intermodal yard design assessments that optimize throughput without compromising system efficiency.
